about.

INTRODUCTION

Kayla Khatri is determined to fulfill her father's dream of becoming Kenya's ultimate Safari Rally Champion.

Fueled by her late father's determination and spirit, Kayla musters up courage to overcome all obstacles along her path and ultimately becoming the first female in her family and larger community to reach the pinnacle of success in the motorsport industry.

As a 22-year-old girl from one of the few Indian communities in Kenya, sharing my culture with others has been incredible. The Indian community is small but passionate and powerful, and so sharing their story through an event that is so loved and adored is something that I am so ready to convey.

Although the East African Classic Rally is one of the most loved sporting events, it is also one of the most treacherous and perilous, but it is a sport that requires passion and devotion to get in that seat and drive. It is a sport that is loved by all but dominated by men. Being a young Indian girl in Kenya, there were a lot of things that seemed untouchable- like I wasn't even given a chance to try them- and so I want to start breaking those glass ceilings beginning with Kayla Khatri dominating the East African classic rally.

Growing up, as a 'tom-boy,' who was the only girl playing on a field with all boys, or playing the drums while all the other girls played the flute- I faced a lot of questions and setbacks, but still- I wasn't afraid to push myself so that I could do something I loved- and I am lucky that I had a family who supported that. Many girls are silenced in these communities, silenced because what they want- is not traditional or 'not for girls.' I want us to use platforms like film to let women shine through sports- from the fields to the tracks, women dominate sports, and we need to show it- tour communities, to Kenya and to the World.
